Sharing your expertise and starting conversations and debates within your industry on LinkedIn will not only build your own personal brand and reputation, but it will also boost your business’ visibility online.
Whilst you can’t expect to become the next Richard Branson overnight, becoming an expert in your industry on a smaller scale can still open doors to plenty of new business relationships and opportunities.
Here are five tips to help you position yourself as an industry expert in your niche on LinkedIn.
Optimise your profile
Make sure that your profile is 100% complete and be creative and consistent with how you sell yourself on it. Provide links that showcase your abilities and focus on the results you achieved in your previous positions as opposed to what you did day-to-day.
Have an opinion and share it
Thought leaders are often innovative thinkers whose reputation as experts in a particular subject has the power to influence others. If your opinion is well-informed and justified, then don’t be afraid to share it via status updates, within groups, or by publishing articles.
Grow your network
As you interact with more people on LinkedIn, your network should organically grow, filling your feed with inspiring conversations between other experts and people interested in your industry.
Join in discussions
As well as starting your own conversations, join in with conversations that others have started. Joining in with other people’s conversations, particularly other industry experts, will help you to grow a network of likeminded contacts, increase your credibility, and get your name and personal brand out there within your industry.
Write and share articles
LinkedIn has a publishing feature that allows you to post and share your own news articles or blogs. Use this to share fresh, new, and thought-provoking ideas or information that you feel will be of interest to those in your industry or potential customers. Share your articles on your feed and within relevant groups and you will find that high-quality, original content will get shared by others.
